Lead the Mechanical Engineering Function Behind Ground-Breaking Semiconductor Technology
Are you a Mechanical Engineering Manager, Lead Mechanical Design Engineer or Engineering Team Leader looking for an opportunity to shape both technology and people?
We're looking for an experienced Mechanics Manager to lead, develop and grow a talented team of mechanical engineers responsible for designing some of the world's most advanced semiconductor metrology equipment.
This is a rare opportunity to join a scaling deep-tech business backed by leading global investors and play a key role in defining the future of our mechanical engineering capability. You'll combine technical leadership, team development, engineering strategy and continuous improvement to help deliver products that push the boundaries of precision measurement.

What You'll Be Doing
As Mechanics Manager, you'll be responsible for both the leadership and technical direction of our mechanical engineering team.
You'll:
- Lead, coach and develop a growing team of mechanical engineers
- Drive recruitment, succession planning and capability development
- Provide technical oversight and guidance across mechanical design activities
- Define and implement mechanical engineering best practice, standards and processes
- Partner with senior leaders to shape the long-term mechanical engineering strategy
- Introduce and optimise tools, systems and ways of working that improve engineering effectiveness
- Support cross-functional product development from concept through to release
- Lead design reviews and ensure robust engineering governance
- Drive continuous improvement across products, processes and team performance
- Work closely with systems architects, programme managers, manufacturing and NPI teams
- Manage relationships with external engineering partners and specialist suppliers
- Support successful delivery of complex engineering projects in a fast-growing environment
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
We're interested in speaking with candidates who bring a combination of mechanical design expertise and people leadership experience.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience leading, mentoring or managing mechanical engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering best practice
- Hands-on product development experience within a complex engineering environment
- Extensive experience using SolidWorks for mechanical design
- Expertise in FEA, DFM and GD&T
- Experience using EPDM and managing CAD-driven Bills of Materials
- Strong knowledge of engineering documentation and configuration control
- Experience managing engineering change processes, including:
- Design Reviews
- Engineering Change Requests (ECR)
- Revision Management
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- A collaborative and pragmatic approach to solving engineering challenges
Desirable Experience
Any of the following would be beneficial:
- Semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation or high-precision engineering
- Environmental analysis including vibration, temperature or acoustic performance
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- First article builds and manufacturing support
- Project management experience
- Jira or similar workflow management tools
- Managing external engineering suppliers and development partners
Education
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status advantageous
- Candidates from other scientific or technical disciplines will be considered where supported by relevant industrial experience
