In short
As the Lead - Indirect Tax, Americas, you will own the operational execution and compliance of all indirect tax workflows across our US and Canadian entities, driving automation and technological integration to scale with our rapid regional growth. You will ensure that tax obligations are calculated accurately and filed on time while keeping various cross-functional partners aligned. Reporting to the Senior Lead - Tax Accounting on the accounting team, you will serve as the primary commercial conduit to keep indirect tax operations highly responsive, accurate, and seamless without slowing down business velocity.
Your Mission
- Own the end-to-end tax compliance and reporting processes for US sales and use tax, Canadian VAT/GST, US property tax, gross receipts, and ESG reporting requirements
- Partner cross-functionally with Technology teams, Accounts Receivable, and Operations teams to optimize transaction tax systems and ensure robust integrations with our indirect tax calculation software
- Serve as the main point of contact for external tax authorities and consultants during indirect tax audits, managing the collection, synthesis, and submission of data while preparing defensible audit files
- Lead tax research initiatives on evolving business transactions, multi-state regulations, and legislative updates to provide clear tax guidance on commercial operations
- Identify, test, and implement automated solutions and process efficiencies to streamline compliance data collection and minimize manual accounting adjustments
- Coordinate the monthly reconciliation of all indirect tax general ledger accounts, resolving variances between tax system logs and financial statements alongside the wider accounting team
Your Story
- You bring 6+ years of experience in corporate tax or public accounting roles with a dedicated focus on US sales and use tax and Canadian indirect tax compliance
- You have hands-on experience implementing, maintaining, or auditing enterprise indirect tax engines and their integrations with complex ERP systems. Experience with Avalara, Looker, Parabola, Microsoft Dynamics is a plus.
- You have a proven track record of managing state and local tax audits, demonstrating the ability to compile transaction data and communicate technical tax rules to regulatory authorities
- You possess strong analytical capabilities with experience manipulating large volumes of data to identify root causes of tax calculation anomalies
- You approach shifting priorities and complex multi-state tax landscapes with an adaptable mindset, developing organized workflows and processes to meet strict statutory deadlines
- CPA license is preferred
- Job is located in Portland, OR. With a hybrid work schedule
