About us
Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved. Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.
Having raised more than $125M in funding to date to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), Riverlane partners with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.
About the role
At Riverlane, we build new and advanced solutions to solve one of the hardest problems in quantum computing: quantum error correction (QEC). As a Integration Software Engineer at Riverlane, you will help build the world’s first quantum error correction stack - Deltaflow, and help deploy it to real customers. You will be excited by the opportunity to work with customers, including onsite with the customer, to ensure the integration of Deltaflow with their system. This cutting-edge work will involve collaborating with our world-class engineering, product and quantum physics teams to design, build and deliver this stack.
At Riverlane, we are creating something truly unique, complex and large-scale, so being comfortable with engineering to evolving specs is key. As such, you will be happy and excited to get hands-on quickly in areas outside your own expertise. You will also work well with different people and be team-oriented.
Prior quantum computing knowledge is not necessary - you will learn this along the way!
What you will do:
- Design and build embedded software components for our quantum error correction stack, specifically targeting features that aid with seamless deployment of our product to partners
- Integrate our QEC stack into world-class quantum computing systems
- Develop test infrastructure to verify and benchmark whole-system correctness and performance
- Work alongside our Product and Quantum Science teams to understand the requirements and constraints for this cutting-edge system
What we need
- A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Physics, Maths or a related discipline
- Great communication skills and an ability to work with a diverse range of people are essential
- Strong Python skills and proficiency with C++ , namely:
- Able to show substantial experience of developing and designing Python3 tools or applications in a professional, production environment, Ideally, including experience of doing this in a hardware control/interfacing context.
- Able to demonstrate professional experience of developing using C++ to produce production-grade released code. Including use of modern (C++14 or later) C++ features, such as memory management, multithreading, STL libraries, etc.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of design and architecture best practices such as object-orientation, SOLID principals and clean code.
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of software testing best practices, such as unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing. Ideally in an embedded context.
- Experience of developing scripts or test harnesses with Python
- Curiosity to learn about new technologies, including quantum computing and error correction
- Experience of developing software for embedded applications and/or for testing hardware devices. Ideally, including interface protocols such as serial, UART, I2C, tcp/ip.
- Experience with standard development practices, such as source control, continuous integration and unit testing
Even better if you have…
- Experience of working with external customers in a system deployment or on-going support context, or, can demonstrate a desire to work directly with customers.
- Experience of deploying and verifying production software onto customer systems or environments.
What can you expect from us
- A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme
- Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
- 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave
- A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
- A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and development, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
